The Hollisters are Moving

It's official, The Hollister family is moving. Steve got a promotion at work which requires us to move to the Southeast. We have our choice of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi or Alabama. Our top picks right now are North Carolina and Tennessee and at this point we are leaning toward Tennessee. We have heard really good things about the Nashville area. Steve will begin working down there soon and will scout around various areas to help narrow our search.
The kids are not exactly excited about the prospect of moving away from so many friends and family but they are supportive and beginning to get involved with the moving plans.
We are not sure of our time line but we would like to go sooner than later. We had initially thought that we would wait until the school year is over but the idea of being separated from Steve for so long is not appealing. We will put our house on the market and hopefully head to our new home early this spring.
Since we will be so far from home my goal is to do much better at keeping this blog up to date. My goal is to post something atleast once a week. I will use this blog to keep everyone informed of our activities wherever we end up!

Turkey Bowl 2011

On Thanksgiving day we held the final Hollister sponsored Turkey Bowl. Everyone had a great time; there were lots of touchdowns, a few injuries and sore muscles for all. Mackenzie and Dallin attempt to stop Benjamin

Southern Utah Adventure

In August Steve and I had the opportunity to go to Utah for the wedding of my cousin's daughter. After the wedding we went to do some hiking in the beautiful National Forests in the Southern part of the state. We visited Bryce Canyon, and Zion's National Park where we did several hikes including a trek down a narrow canyon. The majority of the hike was done in the river that runs through the canyon. Fortunately it was a warm day and the cool water was refreshing. On our way back to Salt Lake we stopped at Kolob Canyon for a hike.

Spring Vacation Day 7

Steve and I got up early to stand in line for rush tickets to How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Lets just say we were not the only ones. There was a very long line and our hopes for getting the discount tickets were fading. When we finally got our turn to buy tickets there weren't enough for our family but there were some obstructed view tickets available. These were more expensive than the rush tickets but Ryan's excitement over seeing this play had grown and we knew he would be crushed if we didn't get to go. We decided to buy the tickets and went back to the hotel to tell the kids. We used some free subway passess we had been given to visit Ground Zero... and Wall Street. We took the free Statten Island Ferry to get a view of the Statue of Liberty. After dinner at Applebees (we couldn't go to Manhattan without eating at Applebees) we made our way to the theater. I think we would all agree that the play was a definite highlight of the trip. Our seats were amazing; we could see the sweat on Daniel Radcliff's brow. The music and dancing were excellent and left us singing our favorite songs for days. After the play we had an ice cream cone and walked around Times Square one more time. The next morning we headed to the airport for our return flight. This was an amazing trip. We had so much fun experiencing so many new things together.

Spring Vacation Day 6

Our first order of business was to go the set of Good Morning America. We got up early and walked the few blocks from our hotel to Times Square. A small group had already formed. We found a good spot where we would hopefully get some facetime on national television. The kids ended up in a great shot with Sam Champion and we got to see Jamie Oliver do a cooking spot right out in the square. We headed back to the hotel for breakfast where a guest heard us discussing whether to buy tickets for a tour bus or just walk. He suggested that we save our money and use the subway. He also recommended that we see a Broadway play; he had taken his family to see How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and they thought it was great, the main character was Daniel Radcliff aka Harry Potter. We were interested in going to a play but they were so expensive I had given up on the idea. He told us to try to get rush tickets which were less expensive. Ryan was thrilled with the idea of seeing Harry Potter and didn't really care what the play was about. We went to the box office but they were sold out for that night but we promised Ryan that we would try again the next day. We spent the morning walking around the city; visiting Rockefeller Center, Playing chess in Central Park. We saw David Lettermans studio and Radio City Music Hall and ate New York style pizza. We needed a little break and went to our hotel for a rest. After a much needed nap we ventured out for dinner at a mexican restaurant Steve had heard about. It was quite a walk but fun to experience the city at night. After dinner we found Macy's and walked through the famous store that was in full bloom. During the spring they bring in thousands of flowers; it smells great and is quite a site. We went to bed that night with hopes of getting to the box office for our play early enough for tickets.
