Tennessee Trip

Steve and I met in Tennessee this past week. Our objective was to find the community that will best meet the needs of our family.

We drove around the metropolitan area that makes up the Nashville area.

We visited several different wards on Sunday and talked with members.

We found a realtor that had some time and was willing to show us a few houses.

We talked to the people we encountered in restaurants and stores; we even stopped a lady in a parking lot who answered a few questions for us.

It would have been nice to have a few more days to look around. I'm sure I'll go back before a final decision is made about exactly were we live but we really like the small town of Spring Hill. The homes are more affordable in Spring Hill than the towns in closer proximity to Nashville. We have heard great things about the schools. While the town is relatively small (approximately 30,000 people); it has most of the businesses that we frequent here. There is a Super Target, Kohl's, Olive Garden, Applebees, Home Depot and Wendy's. There are several grocery stores but no Winco, I guess that's a west coast thing.

The biggest downfall of Spring Hill is it's distance from the airport. Depending on traffic it is 45+ minutes. This is important to Steve because he travels so much but he usually only goes once a week. I think he has concluded that he can handle to commute in exchange for evading the daily traffic in the larger suburbs.

Back home we are now focused on selling our house. We are a bit disappointed by the house prices; no surprise there. Fortunately the company will help offset some of the loss. While we are not excited to leave I think we all agree that this big looming event in the future needs to happen sooner than later. We hope our house sells quickly. Once we have a buyer then the rest of the timeline will be more clear. We would like to be there soon enough for the kids to go to school there for a few months and make some friends before summer.
